Gecko Force: the 2Hz Blast Monitor
The Gecko Force is an ESS-made blast monitor with low-frequency geophones, built for compliance vibration and airblast recording across the full range of blast-monitoring standards.
- Range
- 10 ips / 254 mm/s standard; user-selectable to ~1000 mm/s
- Output
- 500 samples/sec standard, up to 1600Hz
- Supply
- ~2Ah of 12V DC per day (continuous recording)

Overview
In detail
Measurement
A standard configuration resolves ground velocity amplitudes as small as 0.001mm/s with a 10ips (254mm/s) range at 500 samples per second, and the range can be user-selected to record amplitudes up to almost 1000mm/s at up to 1600Hz. With new low-frequency geophones, ground motions from below 0.001mm/s to almost 1000mm/s and airblast from under 80dB to almost 150dB are recorded at high resolution thanks to the unit's 32-bit ADC. Ground and air sensors cover the 2-250Hz compliance frequency range and beyond.
Deployment
The built-in LCD and keypad allow full configuration in the field without a PC. The Gecko Force draws around 2Ah of 12V DC power per day while recording continuously, and is available with a carry case offering a range of battery options for days or weeks of unattended recording, or can run for months from a continuous 12VDC supply.
