The Gecko is ESS's 7th-generation compact seismograph, continuously recording ground motion to a removable SD card, with a built-in LCD and keypad for standalone field configuration.

In detail
How it works
The Gecko continuously digitises and stores ground-motion data using a 32-bit ADC, giving a ratio of largest to smallest recordable signal of almost 8,000,000:1. It has 3+1 channels, suited to a triaxial geophone plus an auxiliary sensor such as a microphone for vibration and blast-compliance monitoring.
Measurement
Data is captured continuously at 50 to 4000 samples per second, covering everything from long-period seismometers to geophones, microphones and accelerometers, with flat frequency response up to 1.6kHz.
Deployment
The Gecko draws under 1W with passive sensors, so it can run for over a month from a car battery or indefinitely on a small solar panel with battery backup. Full configuration is possible in the field via its LCD and keypad, without a laptop or special software. Data can also be telemetered to a remote computer over cellular modem or Ethernet.
Variants
The Gecko Rugged is a waterproof version, available with internal triaxial acceleration or velocity sensors. The Gecko ERI adds an internal battery and charger, an Ethernet interface and 10A relay alarm contacts in a single wall-mountable case for structural monitoring.
