MB3a Infrasound Sensor
The MB3a is an analogue infrasound sensor (microbarometer) manufactured by Seismo Wave, built to meet the requirements of infrasound stations in the CTBTO's International Monitoring System (IMS) network.
- Frequency band
- 0.01-28 Hz
- Self-noise
- >18 dB below Low Noise Model at 1 Hz

Overview
In detail
How it works
The MB3a records ultra-low-frequency atmospheric acoustic signals from 0.01 to 28 Hz with exceptional resolution and a large dynamic range. Instrumental self-noise is kept extremely low, resolving more than 18 dB below the Low Noise Model at 1 Hz, so genuine infrasound signals are not masked by sensor noise.
Applications
Built to meet CTBTO/IMS infrasound network requirements, the MB3a is used across scientific, civil and military monitoring: explosion monitoring, volcanology, meteorology, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, meteors, landslides/avalanches and wind farm emissions.
