HID76 Triaxial Hollow Inclusion Stress Cell
The HID76 Digital Hollow Inclusion Stress Cell is a low-power, high-precision instrument permanently glued within a 76 mm borehole for in-situ monitoring of triaxial rock or concrete stress, and orientation.

- 76 mm
- Power
- Very low power

Overview
In detail
How it works
The cell digitises strain directly at the gauges rather than at the end of long cable runs, avoiding the signal degradation and special readout equipment that affects the older analogue CSIRO HI Cell. It provides a serial output to a logger, computer or tablet, and gives an immediate indication of strain and temperature once installed.
Deployment
The cell is a larger variant of the smaller HID38 sensor, sized for standard 76 mm production boreholes rather than the 38 mm diamond-drilled holes the HID38 requires. It is designed to be permanently glued within a borehole, and can also be embedded or cast directly into concrete liners, pillars, piers or prefab concrete.
Data logging options
Data can be acquired in real time from up to four HID cells using a dedicated multi-channel data logger, saved to a USB stick as CSV for processing with Stress software. Alternatively, a breakout box can power a single cell for real-time plotting on a tablet via USB (suited to overcoring), or the HID BluLog can log data standalone or as part of a wireless network.
Applications
Used to monitor stress changes over time, or the orientation and magnitude of stress due to mining, seismic activity or stress effects on mine pillars, in metalliferous and coal mines, dams, tunnels, bridges, underground caverns and storage facilities.
