First Class Anemometer Advanced X
The First Class Advanced anemometer is a rugged cup anemometer designed for demanding wind-measurement applications in renewable energy and meteorological observation, built to IEC 61400-12-1 and ISO 17713-1 standards. It outputs wind speed over RS-485 Modbus RTU and is available with or without an integrated heater.

Overview
In detail
How it works
Cups mounted on a spindle capture the wind, and the spindle's rotation rate is directly related to wind speed. The sensor reports the horizontal component of wind velocity as a digital output, reaching 1082 Hz at 50 m/s, delivered over an RS-485 Modbus RTU connection for easy integration into a SCADA system.
Standards and applications
The anemometer is designed and accredited to IEC 61400-12-1 and ISO 17713-1. It is used for wind farm feasibility studies and operation (including shutdown in very high winds), adverse-weather infrastructure closure warning systems, and meteorology data acquisition for weather bureau forecasts.
Construction
The housing is anodised aluminium and the cup star is carbon-fibre glass reinforced. The unit carries IP55 ingress protection, mounts onto a 1 inch mast tube, and survives wind speeds up to 80 m/s for a minimum of 30 minutes. It weighs 0.5 kg and can be supplied with or without an integrated heater for cold climates.
