DiTeSt SMARTape II Strain Sensor
The DiTeSt SMARTtape II is a distributed strain sensor in a flat tape form factor, for average-strain monitoring over long distances using BOTDR/BOTDA (Brillouin scattering) technology. It can be surface-mounted or embedded directly into composite materials.
- Operating temperature
- -40 °C to +120 °C
- Strain range
- -1% (compression) to +1% (elongation)
- Tape dimensions
- 9.90 mm × 0.32 mm

Overview
In detail
How it works
A single-mode optical fiber (SMF 9/125 µm, ITU-T G.652.D compliant) is embedded in a glass-fiber-reinforced polymer tape, which is bonded to a structure or embedded in composites to give a continuous strain profile along its length via Brillouin scattering.
Deployment
Suited to surface mounting on smooth surfaces (glued or clamped) or embedding into composite materials, for use in harsh civil and oil & gas engineering environments.
Physical characteristics
The tape is approximately 9.90 mm wide and 0.32 mm thick, weighs about 3.8 kg/km, and is supplied on reels up to 800 m. Tensile strength is rated at ≥400 MPa with elongation at break of ≥2.5%, and a minimum long-term operating bend radius of 100 mm.
