ZDR Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge
The ZDR Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge is a traditional weather-station instrument that measures rainfall using a calibrated funnel and tipping-bucket mechanism, outputting an electronic switch pulse for automatic logging.
- Range
- 0-4mm/min (up to 0-8mm/min on some variants)
- Resolution
- 0.1-1mm, model-dependent (ZDR010/020/050/100)
- Operating temperature
- 0°C to 60°C

Overview
In detail
How it works
Rain collects in a Φ200mm funnel and fills one of two calibrated buckets mounted on a fulcrum; each bucket is held by a magnet until it reaches the calibrated volume, then tips and triggers an electronic switch pulse that is counted to derive rainfall.
Measurement
The gauge measures rainfall at 0-4mm/min (up to 0-8mm/min on some variants), with resolution options from 0.1mm to 1mm across the ZDR010/020/050/100 model range, and operates from 0°C to 60°C.
Deployment
It is used for traceability analysis of rainfall data across automatic weather stations, water conservancy, mountain-torrent monitoring, urban waterlogging monitoring and smart-city monitoring, and is available in single-tipping and double-tipping designs in plastic or stainless-steel construction.
