UMI Multi Channel Tabletop Datalogger
The UMI is a tabletop, universal fibre-optic datalogger for multi-point temperature, pressure, strain and displacement measurements, built for environments hostile to non-fibre-optic transducers thanks to complete immunity to microwave and RF radiation.

How it works
A white-light cross-correlator (U.S. Patents 5,392,117 and 5,202,939) measures the absolute cavity length of Fabry-Perot fibre-optic transducers with 0.01% F.S. resolution and 0.025% F.S. precision. A 7-digit gauge factor on each transducer's connector lets the UMI automatically recognise the transducer type and calibration.
Measurement
The UMI has 4 or 8 channels, scanning through all channels in use with a 150 ms switching time, or sampling one specific channel at 20 Hz. Averaging can be set from 1 to 500 samples, and each channel has a dedicated ±5 V adjustable analogue output.
Connectivity
The instrument is operated directly from the front panel or through RS-232 (software included), and also provides USB 1.1. A non-volatile memory buffer logs up to 50,000 data samples, with datalogging sequences, duration and other parameters fully programmable. A flash EEPROM allows firmware upgrades, though the channel count is fixed at manufacture.
Deployment
The aluminium and PVC 1/2 DIN enclosure measures 190 x 211 x 97 mm (w x d x h) and weighs 2 kg. It runs from a 10 to 14 volt, 5 watt supply (AC/DC adapter included), operates from -20°C to +40°C, and has a light source life expectancy of around 40,000 hours of continuous use (MTBF).
