SSG Vibrating Wire Soil Settlement Gauge
The SSG is a Roctest vibrating-wire or fibre-optic settlement gauge that measures soil or structural settlement and heave relative to a fluid-filled reference reservoir at a known elevation.
- Range
- Settlement range: 5, 10, 20, 35, 50, 75 m
- Transducer type
- Vibrating wire or fiber optic
- Maximum overpressure
- 1.5 × range

Overview
In detail
How it works
A vibrating-wire or fibre-optic pressure transducer is housed in a corrosion-resistant stainless steel body, normally attached to a base plate and connected by twin tubing (filled with water or an anti-freeze solution) to a reference station. The reference station is a liquid-filled reservoir, open to atmospheric pressure, located at a known elevation. Settlement or heave is measured relative to the reservoir's elevation.
Installation
The SSG can be installed in boreholes, standpipes or soil, cast into concrete, or attached to structures for settlement monitoring. For best performance, the twin tubing should be flushed regularly to remove air bubbles, and readings should be compensated for temperature changes and changes in atmospheric pressure; de-aired water or an antifreeze solution is recommended.
