SMP22 Pyranometer
The SMP22 is a Class A (formerly secondary standard) pyranometer from Kipp & Zonen that combines a smart digital interface with the quartz domes and sensor technology of the CMP22. It offers the widest spectral range and lowest directional error in the SMP range, suited to high-level research and meteorological studies.
- Output
- 4 to 20 mA / 0 to 1 V (analogue, -A/-V version)
- Spectral range
- 190 to 4000 nm (20% point); 200 to 3600 nm (50% points)
- Response time
- <2 s (95%)

Overview
In detail
Measurement
Building on the CMP22's decades-long track record, the SMP22 has the widest spectral range, improved directional response and reduced thermal offsets of the SMP range. Its high-optical-quality domes reduce directional error below 5 W/m².
Connectivity
The sensor comes standard with an RS-485 Modbus interface and an amplified analogue output (4 to 20 mA or 0 to 1 V, depending on version), plus a 5-year warranty.
Deployment
When fitted with the CVF4 ventilator, the SMP22 is one of the most accurate ways to measure global horizontal irradiance (GHI), diffuse irradiance (with shading ball), and in some cases plane-of-array irradiance.
