SFO-W Spot Weldable Strain Sensor
The SFO-W is a spot-weldable fibre-optic strain sensor — a stainless-steel tube welded onto a steel sheet — for long-term, precise strain measurement on flat or cylindrical steel structures.
- Range
- ±1500 microstrain
- Operating temperature
- -40 to +55°C
- Resolution
- 0.01% of full scale

Overview
In detail
How it works
A Fabry-Perot fibre-optic strain gauge is bonded inside the sensor's small-diameter stainless-steel tube, so it follows the tensile or compressive movement transmitted through the spot-welded tube. Because the sensing element is optical, the SFO-W is intrinsically immune to electromagnetic interference.
Deployment
The gauge is spot-welded directly onto flat or cylindrical steel surfaces and can be installed by a technician without a skilled welder, making it suited to long-term structural strain monitoring.
