The EC Field Verifier allows a quick check of ESS salinity and electrical conductivity sensors in the field, without requiring messy calibration fluids. It simulates 10% and 90% conductivity for a variety of ranged sensors, and used with a readout or data logger it lets a technician easily check sensor performance and instrument drift on site.

What it does
The Field Verifier allows electrical conductivity sensors to be quickly checked and tested in the field, without requiring messy calibration fluids. One unit covers multiple ranges, each range can be tested at 10% and 90% current, and the check reveals instrument drift. It is portable, easy to operate and requires no batteries.
Operation principle
In the EC sensor head, a transmit coil and a pickup coil are mounted in close proximity; a conductive fluid filling the gap links the coils and the induced current is proportional to the conductivity of the liquid. The verifier simulates the presence of this conduction path: a simple wire loop incorporating a series resistance takes the place of the ionized liquid, and varying the resistance in the loop with the front panel switch controls the amount of current linking the coils, so a variable conductivity is simulated.
Standard and waterproof versions
The verifier is available as a standard unit (IP65 enclosure, push-on banana plug connector, ranges 1000 to 20000 μS/cm) and a waterproof unit (IP67 enclosure, waterproof quick connector, ranges 1000 to 70000 μS/cm). Neither version requires a power supply.
