S-Band Weather Radar from EEC
The EEC S-Band weather radar is a high-power, long-range Doppler weather radar for tracking severe weather over large areas, available in magnetron (DWSR-8501S) or klystron (DWSR-8501S/K) configurations with single- or dual-polarization options.
- Output
- 850 kW peak (per ESS product description; EEC's own site cites 750 kW minimum, see notes)
- Models
- DWSR-8501S (magnetron), DWSR-8501S/K (klystron)
- Receiver
- EEC IQ2 digital receiver and signal processor

Overview
In detail
How it works
A super-sensitive IQ2 digital receiver and signal processor gives precise data processing for a clean, true picture of intense, long-range weather phenomena. Dual-polarization variants add better rainfall estimation and improved discrimination between precipitation types and non-meteorological signals such as birds, insects, dust storms or an approaching tornado's debris field.
Configuration
The radar is offered as the magnetron-powered DWSR-8501S or the klystron-powered DWSR-8501S/K, each engineered for high transmitted power. Both are available with EEC's standard single-polarization system or its dual-polarization system, developed with the University of Oklahoma. EEC's turnkey design, manufacturing and installation process allows the radar to be configured to specification, including choice of installation type, radome and control/display systems.
Deployment
The system is built for covering huge expanses of land and water and analysing multiple fronts of heavy precipitation, making it suited to tracking monsoons, hurricanes, cyclones and blizzards.
