Pyrgeometers from Kipp & Zonen
Kipp & Zonen pyrgeometers measure longwave (infrared) radiation, complementing pyranometers which measure shortwave radiation. The range spans the cost-effective CGR3 and the meteorological-grade CGR4, both available with an RS-485 Modbus output (SGR3/SGR4).
- Output
- Analogue -5 to 5 mV; RS-485 Modbus on SGR3/SGR4
- Ingress

Overview
In detail
How it works
A thermopile sensor under a silicon dome detects longwave infrared radiation. The CGR4's thermally stable dome construction removes the need for separate dome temperature measurement or dome shading, which simpler pyrgeometers require.
Models
The CGR3 is a low-cost pyrgeometer for routine measurements across many applications. The CGR4 is designed for meteorological observations, with improved thermal stability over the CGR3. Both are available with a serial RS-485 Modbus output, sold as the SGR3 and SGR4 respectively.
Connectivity
Standard output is an analogue millivolt signal through an 8-pin waterproof connector. The Modbus variants (SGR3/SGR4) add a digital RS-485 output for direct integration into a weather station or SCADA system.
