EC-2500L Logging Electrical Conductivity (Salinity) Sensor
The Greenspan EC-2500L is an Australian-made logging electrical conductivity (salinity) sensor with an integrated data logger and toroidal (non-electrode) design, built for long-term unattended deployment in the field. Its encapsulated toroid and delrin-tube construction avoid the recalibration and corrosion issues of conventional electrode-based cells.

How it works
The EC-2500L uses a toroidal conductivity sensing element combined with a digital temperature sensor, factory-calibrated to a chosen full-scale range (500 to 75,000 µS/cm) with temperature compensation of the EC output. Data is recorded by an integrated logger and read out via SensorMate software or an optional SDI-12 adaptor (3-wire serial). Memory capacity is 4 Mb, typically 250,000 readings (over 12 months at 5-minute intervals).
Deployment
The encapsulated toroid design requires very little maintenance, giving years of accurate data collection without recalibration, and is suited to active waters, including acidic or salty conditions, marine applications and waterways with high sediment loads. It runs from an 8 to 30 V DC supply or an onboard battery pack for discrete, unattended deployment, drawing under 0.2 mA on sleep, 20 mA while logging and 30 mA while communicating.
Configuration
The sensor is available with a flat-side head and slimline shroud (47 mm OD) or a standard head with a large shroud (65 mm OD), plus a choice of standard side-button or fast-response tip-end temperature sensor. It is supplied with a sealed cable of specified length, or optionally a waterproof socket and matching cable plug. Output is via Modbus RTU, ASCII, RS232 or RS485/422; non-logging versions with SDI-12 and/or 4-20 mA output are also available.
