LOGBOX SE Data Logger
The Kipp & Zonen LOGBOX SE is a weatherproof data logger with analogue and digital inputs for connecting multiple instruments, including a built-in GSM/GPRS modem for remote data transmission. It is used for unattended monitoring in solar energy, meteorology, climatology, hydrology and agronomy applications.

Overview
In detail
How it works
LOGBOX SE has 4 differential 24-bit and 4 single-ended 12-bit analogue inputs, plus 4 digital inputs (max 15 V). Input channels are configured by selecting a voltage range and defining the calculation used to convert measurements to engineering units, including polynomial functions. The logger programme is held in non-volatile internal memory, and measurements are recorded on an included SD card (512 MB).
The measurement (sampling) interval can be as fast as 1 second, and the logging interval is typically 1 minute, usually storing the average, minimum, maximum and standard deviation of each measurement. LOGBOX SE is designed to meet the requirements of the Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN).
Power
The logger runs from 6 internal AA batteries or an external 4 to 24 V DC supply, drawing just 1 mA on standby and 7 mA typical during measurement (50 mA with the modem on). It can also regulate 12-20 V from a solar panel and charge a 12 V lead-acid battery, making it suitable for months of unattended operation in remote locations.
Connectivity
Data is downloaded via RS-232 serial or the internal USB port using the supplied Windows configuration software. An internal quad-band GSM/GPRS modem with external antenna and full-size SIM card can send logged data at intervals from 1 to 24 hours to a designated e-mail address or FTP server. A battery-backed real-time clock can be synchronised daily with a time server. An RS-485 port supports up to 8 compatible Modbus devices from Kipp & Zonen, Lufft or IMT.
