LAS MkII ET System
The LAS MkII Evapo-Transpiration (ET) system is a complete solution for monitoring the energy balance within the boundary layer, delivering surface heat fluxes and evapo-transpiration data as one easy-to-use package. It comprises a LAS MkII scintillometer, net radiation sensor, meteorological sensors and data acquisition, with several telemetry and power supply options, and can be individually configured to suit specific requirements.
- Scintillometer
- LAS MkII or X-LAS MkII (includes transit case)
- Net radiometer
- NR Lite2 Net radiometer
- Meteorological sensors
- Meteorological sensors and 4m mast

Overview
In detail
Field-scale energy balance monitoring
The system is specifically designed for field scale observations of the path average energy fluxes using the scintillometry technique. Because scintillometer measurements are on a comparable scale to the pixel size of satellite instruments, the LAS MkII is well suited to ground-truthing applications. All the instruments and equipment of the LAS MkII ET system are selected and designed to offer easy installation and low maintenance operation.
Typical configuration
Kipp & Zonen's recommended surface energy balance setup pairs a LAS MkII or X-LAS MkII scintillometer (with transit case) with meteorological sensors on a 4 m mast, an NR Lite2 net radiometer, and a Combilog data logger in an enclosure with an optional power supply and backup battery. Two 12 VDC power supplies (CVP1) feed the transmitter and receiver, mounted on heavy-duty tripods or a secure mounting structure. The package can be individually configured to suit the specific customer requirements.
Software
The EVATION® software suite is included as standard to view real-time data numerically and graphically, as well as for advanced data post-processing. Evation reads the ET system measurement data, and can also use files from other types of data acquisition systems.
