LAS MkI / 150 Upgrade
A factory upgrade service that converts an existing Kipp & Zonen LAS150 (produced in 2002 and 2003) or LAS MkI (2004-2011) large aperture scintillometer to have all the functionality of a LAS MkII, while retaining the original housing and mounting. The upgrade includes a GPS receiver for accurate time synchronisation and calibration against the Kipp & Zonen reference instrument.
- Path length
- 100 m to 1 km (10 cm aperture), 250 m to 4.5 km (aperture 15 cm)
- Dimensions
- 420 x 320 x 230 mm. (LxHxD) 13.5 kg
- Wavelength
- 850 nm

Overview
In detail
What the upgrade delivers
The upgrade gives an older LAS all the benefits of the LAS MkII: digital electronics with an internal microprocessor and flash storage, an integral display and keypad, and new internal optics with increased range. The original housing and mounting are retained, so existing installations and fixtures carry over. A GPS receiver is fitted for accurate time synchronisation.
MkII capabilities gained
After conversion the instrument makes fast and continuous measurements over path lengths from 100 m up to 4.5 km, with internal digital processing to make calculations in-situ, store data and show real-time results on the built-in display. It carries an integrated lens heater to avoid freezing or condensation on the window in cold environments, integral data logging, and both digital output for direct PC connection and analogue outputs for customised logging on external data loggers or networks. The Evation software for downloading and processing flux data is provided free, and an optional meteorological sensor kit (wind speed, air temperature and pressure sensors) plugs directly into the sensor port.
Calibration
No absolute instrument calibration is needed. Each upgraded instrument is supplied with a certificate detailing a calibration against the Kipp & Zonen reference instrument, performed outdoors for 2 weeks.
