Kipp & Zonen SMP10 Pyranometer
The Kipp & Zonen SMP10 is a Class A (ISO 9060 secondary standard) smart pyranometer that pairs CMP11-derived sensor technology with the low-maintenance internal desiccant cartridge of the CMP10, plus an RS-485 Modbus serial output for direct SCADA integration. It targets PV solar farm monitoring and meteorological networks that need accurate, low-maintenance data acquisition.
- Output
- 0 to 1 V (V-version) or 4 to 20 mA (A-version); 2-wire RS-485 Modbus
- Spectral range
- 285 to 2800 nm (50% points)
- Response time
- < 0.7 s (63%); < 2 s (95%)

Overview
In detail
How it works
The SMP and CMP pyranometer range uses a thermopile sensor, which absorbs a greater spectrum of solar radiation than silicon sensors and has a near-perfect cosine response. The SMP10 provides an RS-485 Modbus serial output alongside analogue V or A output options, so it can connect to a datalogger or integrate directly with SCADA systems.
Maintenance
The SMP10's internal drying cartridge lasts at least 10 years and is replaced as standard whenever the unit is returned for recalibration, significantly reducing maintenance compared with the SMP11's desiccant cartridge. Fitting the CVF4 ventilation unit extends the interval between dome cleanings and maximises measurement quality.
Accessories
Available accessories include the AMPBOX signal booster, the CVF4 ventilation unit (prevents dew, dust, frost and snow build-up), unventilated or ventilated mounting plates for one or two (albedometer) pyranometers, mounting brackets, a shadow ring that blocks direct radiation for diffuse measurement, an adjustable tilt kit for plane-of-array studies, and cable lengths of 10, 25, 50 or 100 m.
