Fixed Site RAWS Remote Automated Weather Station
The Fixed Site RAWS is a semi-permanent remote automated weather station built around a large mounting frame and a winch-raised 10 m mast, designed to establish a local climatology for fire-danger monitoring in remote terrain. It carries the standard RAWS sensor suite plus a barometer, and communicates over dual (3G and Iridium satellite) telemetry.
- Mast height
- 10 m, winch-operated
- Sensors
- Temperature/humidity, rainfall (tipping bucket), solar radiation, barometric pressure, wind speed & direction
- Power
- Solar panel + battery

Overview
In detail
How it works
Unlike the portable PAWS, the fixed site RAWS is designed to obtain a local climatology used to calculate fire danger indices and continuously monitor fire behaviour at a specific location over longer timescales. Installation can take up to 4 hours depending on terrain difficulty, but once assembled the station can remain in place for years.
Sensors
The RAWS carries the standard suite of temperature/humidity, rainfall, and solar radiation sensors, plus a barometer and a wind speed and direction sensor mounted atop the 10 m mast, with options to extend the sensor set.
Power and telemetry
The station is powered by a solar panel and battery, and communicates via dual telemetry capability to log data seamlessly.
Deployment
Originally designed for the fire industry, the equipment is built to endure harsh conditions. Sensors connect through a colour-coded interface, and the logger is preconfigured to the customer's specifications prior to shipment.
