Fiber Optic Extension Cable (multi-fiber)
The multi-fiber extension cable connects multiple fiber optic sensors to a reading unit with a single cable, without the need to install a cable for each sensor. It is a rugged, metal-free outdoor cable terminated with standard E-2000 connectors, available in 12-fiber and 24-fiber versions.

Overview
In detail
How it connects
The connecting ends of all the sensors are first brought to an Intermediate Connection Box (ICB); a multi-fiber extension cable connected on one side of the ICB then carries each sensor's signal to the reading unit placed at some distance from the ICB. The number of fibers inside the cable varies with the number of sensors to be connected, and the cable attaches to the connection box using a PG21 gland nut.
Construction
The cable consists of optical fibers protected with primary coating, a gel-filled loose tube, glass yarns with water-blocking tape and a PE outer sheath, with enhanced chemical and mechanical resistance and enhanced rodent protection. No metals are used in the cable, so it requires neither grounding nor shielding and is insensitive to electromagnetic fields.
Environmental resistance
The cable is adapted to outdoor conditions: it features high flexibility and high crush resistance, and loading will not irreversibly affect the optical characteristics of the fiber nor damage the cable. Pulling, stepping on, accidental crush, weather changes, sunlight or low temperature cannot damage it in the long term, and it is insensitive to thermal variation, corrosion and humidity. Typical applications include fiber optic sensing networks and bridge, building and tunnel monitoring.
