EEC Radar Wind Shear System (RWSS)
The EEC Radar Wind Shear System (RWSS) is an airport weather radar system built to detect hazardous weather events such as windshear and microbursts, giving air traffic controllers and forecasters accurate, timely warnings for distribution to pilots and airport management.

Overview
In detail
How it works
RWSS is built around the EEC Defender X200 dual-polarization Doppler weather surveillance radar, with an EEC D-series pedestal, a 2.4 metre low-sidelobe antenna and a sandwich foam-core radome tuned for X-Band operation. Automatic detection algorithms, site-adaptable for seasonal and geographic differences, generate warnings without needing constant human monitoring.
Detection capability
Beyond windshear and microbursts, RWSS can forecast, detect and measure other phenomena affecting airport operations and safety, including severe thunderstorm and hail warnings, gust fronts and wind shifts, rain/snow start-stop forecasting, lightning hazard potential, in-route weather monitoring and precipitation monitoring.
Deployment
The system combines a complete suite of hardware and software to fully implement airport weather forecasting and general terminal-area weather monitoring, with air traffic controllers and forecasters as the primary users of its outputs.
