d-Sloughmeter Ground failure and deformation sensor
The d-Sloughmeter is a low-cost ground failure sensor that detects cable slippage or rock fall in a borehole, raising an alarm once movement exceeds a set anchor threshold.
- Range
- 0-125 mm displacement (variable inductance sensor)
- Output
- RS485, up to 500 m over 2 x twisted pair
- Resolution
- 0.01 mm displacement; 0.1°C temperature

Overview
In detail
How it works
Solid anchors bonded into the borehole with grout sever a monitoring circuit if the surrounding ground fails, giving an instant fall or slough alert. The instrument supports two compatible modes: an instant check via an LED display box, or continuous logging through a data logger for ongoing surveillance.
An on-board digital temperature sensor adds a temperature reading to every data string.
Deployment
Designed for 50 mm boreholes, the Sloughmeter is available with up to 10 monitoring points at custom locations and custom overall lengths, and arrives on site fully assembled. The electronics head is compact - 25 mm diameter, 220 mm long.
