CHP1 Pyrheliometer
The CHP1 is a Kipp & Zonen pyrheliometer for direct normal irradiance (DNI) measurement, meeting First Class ISO/WMO performance criteria and typically paired with a sun tracker.
- Output
- 7 to 14 µV/W/m²
- Spectral range (50% points)
- 200 to 4000 nm
- Response time
- < 5 s

Overview
In detail
How it works
The CHP1 measures the direct beam of solar radiation across a narrow 5° field of view, so it must be mounted on a sun-tracking device such as the SOLYS2 to stay accurately pointed at the sun. A quartz window covers the full solar spectrum from 200 to 4000 nm.
What's included
Every unit is calibrated on manufacture and supplied with a WRR-traceable calibration certificate, plus a 10 kΩ thermistor and a Pt-100 temperature sensor fitted as standard, allowing small temperature-dependent sensitivity errors to be corrected in post-processing.
Deployment
A screw-in drying cartridge protects the components from moisture and can be removed quickly for a fast desiccant changeover. A high-quality connector keeps installation and maintenance simple.
