CGR4 Pyrgeometer
The CGR4 is a Kipp & Zonen pyrgeometer for high-accuracy measurement of downward longwave (infrared) radiation in meteorological and climate research.
- Range
- -250 to +250 W/m² (net irradiance)
- Output
- 5 to 15 µV/W/m²
- Spectral range (50% points)
- 4.5 to 42 µm (4500 to 42000 nm)

Overview
In detail
How it works
The CGR4 uses a meniscus dome with a 180° field of view for accurate longwave radiation measurement with negligible directional response error. A hard-carbon coating on the outside of the dome smooths the spectral response and protects the silicon surface. The dome's thermal stability and its coupling to the instrument body eliminate the need for separate dome temperature measurement or dome shading.
Deployment
An optional CVF4 ventilation unit can be fitted to further improve performance. The screw-in drying cartridge is easy to remove and replacement desiccant is supplied in refill packets. An integral bubble level, raised to the top of the housing, can be checked without removing the snap-on sun shield.
Connectivity
A waterproof socket takes the signature yellow signal cable, available pre-wired to a waterproof plug in a range of lengths. The connector has gold-plated contacts for easy exchange and re-calibration.
