CGR3 Pyrgeometer
The CGR3 Pyrgeometer from Kipp & Zonen measures downward atmospheric longwave radiation for meteorological applications, providing a voltage proportional to net radiation in the far-infrared. An internal temperature sensor and solar-blind filter behind a silicon window allow downward longwave radiation to be derived by calculation.

Overview
In detail
How it works
The CGR3 uses a specially designed silicon window with an internal solar-blind filter that blocks solar radiation, providing a voltage proportional to net far-infrared radiation from which downward atmospheric longwave radiation is derived by calculation. Because the reference CGR3 is calibrated outdoors against a reference CG4 with a 180-degree field of view, the CGR3's data represents radiation exchange across the whole hemisphere.
Mounting
Like Kipp & Zonen's pyranometers, the CGR3 can be mounted on the CMF or CFM4 mounting plates, chosen according to whether the sensor will be ventilated. Two sensors can be mounted back to back on the plates to form a net pyrgeometer configuration.
Features
The CGR3 has an internal drying desiccant that does not need changing for 10 years and carries a 5-year warranty, making it suited to economical, low-maintenance routine measurement of atmospheric long-range radiation in agricultural and meteorological applications.
