C 110 Vibrating Wire Strain Gauges
The C-110 vibrating wire strain gauge is a thin-wall steel tube sensor with two soldered steel end heads and electromagnetic excitation and pick-up coils, designed for embedment in concrete or structural elements to measure strain from stress variations. It is corrosion resistant and requires no maintenance.

Overview
In detail
How it works
The C-110 strain gauge consists of a thin-wall steel tube with two steel heads soldered to its extremities using solder with a low modulus of deformation; the distance between the flanges of the heads determines the gauge length. A small rectangular housing at the gauge midsection encloses the electromagnetic excitation and pick-up coils, and gauges are factory-set at mid-range so that half the range is available for tensile strain and half for compressive strain.
Cabling and application
Gauges are supplied with a 5-conductor cable when the electrical resistance of one coil is also used to provide temperature data, or a 4-conductor cable when temperature measurement is not required. The C-110 is designed for embedment in fine aggregate concrete to measure strain caused by variations in stress.
