Ampbox Signal Amplifier
AMPBOX is a galvanically isolated signal amplifier for Kipp & Zonen irradiance sensors, converting the low millivolt output of a radiometer into a 4-20mA current-loop signal for reliable transmission over long cable runs.
- Range
- -12 to +150 mV input
- Output
- 4-20mA (2-10V achievable with a 500Ω resistor)
- Ingress
- IP66

Overview
In detail
How it works
Most radiometers have no power supply; the measured radiation creates an output signal in the millivolt range, which often needs amplification — especially when signal cables of more than 50m are used between the radiometer and data collection equipment. AMPBOX's input and output are galvanically isolated to minimise feedback and protect the data collection equipment, which also helps prevent interference in EMC-unfriendly environments.
Connectivity
The 4-20mA interface makes it easy to connect to most data collection equipment. A 2-10 Volt output can also be created using a 500 Ω resistor and a suitable power supply. AMPBOX is compatible with the complete range of Kipp and Zonen pyranometers.
