EC-1500 Analogue Conductivity and Temperature Sensor

How it works

The EC-1500 uses magnetic inductive coupling: water flows through a hole in the epoxy-encapsulated sensor head, providing the coupling needed to measure conductivity. There are no wetted metal components and no moving parts, so the sensor resists corrosion and needs no servicing.

The sensor concurrently measures electrical conductivity and temperature to derive salinity, and is a dual-output 3-wire current loop device with SDI-12.

Construction

Constructed from durable machined plastic and epoxy resins, the EC-1500 is built to withstand harsh conditions, including high-conductivity and high-acidity water. An 8mm-diameter submersible-rated cable (custom length specified at order) is hardwired to the back of the sensor; a waterproof socket and matching cable plug option is also available.

Measurement

Standard full-scale ranges run from 500 to 75,000 µS/cm (500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000, 20000, 50000 or 70000 µS/cm, with other ranges available on request), with or without temperature-compensated output. EC linearity is better than 2% of full scale (0-30°C) and temperature accuracy better than 0.2°C over the same range, with a response time of 2 seconds to full accuracy.

Connectivity

The EC-1500 outputs 4-20mA scaled to the maximum EC and temperature range, plus SDI-12 digital output. It runs on 9-30VDC and draws under 50mA, with secondary surge protection able to absorb 0.6 J of energy.
