HID76 Triaxial Hollow Inclusion Stress Cell

The HID Cell is a proven, reliable and accurate instrument to determine triaxial stress in rock or concrete.
HID Cells are used for monitoring stress changes over time or determining orientation and magnitude of stress changes due to mining, increased seismic activity and stress effects on mine pillars.
HID Cells are installed in metalliferous mines, coal mines, dams, tunnels, bridges, underground caverns, storage facilities and other civil engineering projects.
The recent development of HID76 gives clients the ability to install sensors in pre-existing or freshly drilled production holes, something that wasn’t possible with HID38 diamond drilled holes.

Description

The Digital Hollow Inclusion HID76 Stress Cell is a very low power, high-precision instrument purposely designed for in-situ monitoring of rock stress. The unit is designed to be permanently glued within a borehole, and provides an immediate indication of strain and temperature. It is a larger variant of the well proven industry standard and ISRM approved analogue CSIRO HI CELL or  Digital HI Cell (HID). The newly designed sensor is suitable for installation in 76mm boreholes rather than 38mm of its smaller counterpart HID38 sensor. Smaller boreholes and related drilling equipment are less common these days, this was our motiviation to innovate so that the sensor was adapted to standard production drillholes. A new growing area of application is embedding or casting the sensor directly into concrete liners, pillars, piers or prefab concrete.

The analogue HI Cell was originally developed by the CSIRO and commercialised by a company acquired by ESS Earth Sciences. We have in turn improved on the design by digitising the strain at the gauges rather than at the end of long, expensive multi-strand cables, where the signal can be degraded and requires special readouts or loggers. We’ve simplified the sensor to provide a serial output to a logger, computer or tablet.

We also produce a data logger that can acquire data in real time from up to four HID Cells, which is simply saved to a CSV file on a USB stick. This is ideal for long term in-situ monitoring. This data can be processed with the latest “Stress” software. Alternatively an HID cell can be powered by a breakout box and connected to a tablet via USB to plot data in real time. This is ideal for overcoring applications.

Another option on datalogging is the HID BluLog can collect data standalone or be networked with the addition of a Gateway

Our HI and HID cells are the original product and are of the highest quality, and our ongoing development and improvement of the cell and related hardware and software means we are the best one-stop-shop for 3D in-situ stress measurement systems.
